“Let’s liberate Africa! AU Day is important” – Kojo Yankah

Kojo Yankah, Founder of PAHM speaks on African Union Day 2022

“Let’s Liberate Africa! May 25 is important” was a passionate statement from Kojo Yankah to the world, when he was asked about the AU Day.

The African Union Day, also referred to as the African Unity Day, African Liberation Day, AU Day, or Africa Day is celebrated on the 25th May of every year.

The day is observed in many African countries to commemorate the foundation of the Organization of African Unity in 1963.

The theme for this year is

2022: The year of nutrition – Strengthening Resilience in Nutrition and Food Security on the African Continent: Strengthening Agro-Food Systems, Health and Social Protection Systems for the Acceleration of Human, Social and Economic Capital Development

African Union

And on special occasions like this, prominent Africans who have made tremendous contributions towards the development and independence of Africa, share their words of influence with the world.

One of such heroes is Kojo Yankah, the founder of the Pan African Heritage Museum

Here’s the founder’s statement:

“Let’s Liberate Africa! May 25 is important!

What would be more inspiring than an occasion when Africans and people of African descent joined hands to educate, heal and inspire each other?

What joy it would be if we abandoned all our petty squabbles over ethnicity, tribalism, border disputes, religious differences and political differences and embraced each other as a people with one beautiful heritage?

The mission of the Pan African Heritage Museum is to support African cultural liberation to include the diaspora as the sixth region and bring pride and self-confidence to everyone irrespective of age, location or social standing!

On this Africa Liberation Day, we salute all our ancestors – cultural, political, social, academic – who sacrificed all they had to fight domination of any kind.”

My main concer now is the slow enactment of the African Common Currency. We must pull all efforts to make it happen post haste!

This initiative by Hon Kojo Yankah is one of the most effective ways of cross border co-operation on critical issues of culture, heritage and economic integration in Africa. Without that, political and state to state integration will never happen. Look at the OAU/African Union where the good intentions have been trapped in bureaucratic processes for decades. Lets support the integration of the African people through the PAHM and address the plight of the Africans.

I congratulate Kojo Yankan, great personality and founder of the Pan African Heritage Museum for the initiative and for his vision in positioning the African legacy to the world of the importance of Culture. We Afro-Brazilians, aware that our ancestors arrived in America carrying only the civilizing body and a great word and a great humanization, we have the past, to build the now in purpose. Let’s keep fighting!!

Surely, there no other way than a liberation and possibly in an aggressive manner. It will take ourselves and NO other persons by race, colour and region to do & achieve this than we AFRICANS!!!

Thank you to Honorable Kojo Yankah and collaborators for creating this important institution to encourage the coming together of Africa and its Global African Diaspora to understand and promote our commonalities and continuities and tell the truths of our foundational contributions to human civilization — beginning, of course, with the origins of modern humans.

This great and worthy endeavor is much needed and appreciated by myself and my great teachers, Drs Leonard and Rosalind Jeffries, who pledge their support to its growth. It is very much in the best of the African thought tradition, examining our past accomplishments and history with our eyes focused on building a great African future – onwards to a great African Renaissance!
