Abu Simbel temple – The Great Temple of Ramesses II

Abu Simbel, the great temple of Ramses II is in Southern Egypt, at the second cataract of the Nile, close to the Sudanese border. Started around 1244 B.C.E. it was finished around 1224 BCE. Ramses II chose the site because it was already sacred to Hathor, goddess of motherhood, joy, and love.
